Butte Co. Cal Fire battling vegetation fire

Butte County Cal Fire responded to a fire north of Chico Thursday afternoon. Originally estimated as three acres, the burn area was reduced to two acres by Cal Fire later in the evening.

As of 9:40 p.m. Cal Fire said the fire was 50 percent contained. According to officials, the vegetation fire is burning at Richardson Springs Road and no structures are threatened.

Witness told KRCR they believed the fire escaped from a debris burn. A man had been burning black berry bushes all week in that area.

The burn is near the Richardson Springs Camp and Conference Center.

Richardson Springs is a Christian conference center operated by the group Youth with a Mission. Richardson Springs began as a resort in the 1920's. Seventy to 75 people live in the community.
