Father shoots son in Palermo break-in

Butte County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of shots fired on the 100 block of Parham Road, in Palermo shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the sheriff's office, a homeowner was returning to his residence, when he found someone trying to break-in. Officials then say the homeowner got a rifle from his truck and chased the suspect into a nearby trailer.

It was then, officials say the homeowner discovered the suspect was his son, who had armed himself with a large steel pipe and tried to attack his father.

Then, the sheriff's office says the father fired his rifle three times, hitting his son in the leg, causing non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital, where he will be arrested and charged with parole violations, burglary, vandalism and assault with a deadly weapon.
