Car crashes through building, Chico PD say driver suffered medical seizure
CHICO, Calf. - A driver was briefly trapped after crashing into an office building in Chico Monday morning. Emergency personnel said the crash happened after the driver suffered a seizure.
The collision happened around 9:15 a.m. at 2545 Ceonothus Avenue, just off East Avenue.
A Lincoln Town Car slammed into the office of Entwood Property Management, causing major structural damage to the building.
Rescuers freed the driver about 15 minutes after the collision. They describe him as a man in his 40's. He was alert and able to walk from the crash scene.
Witnesses said it appears the driver careened through the drive-through lane of the neighboring McDonald's restaurant, then traveled about 50 yards before slammed into the office building.
"This being a holiday and there's no one in this parking lot and the building is closed is very fortunate," said Todd Lefkowitz, an officer with the Chico Police Department.
