Chico musicians break world record for longest concert
CHICO, Calif. - An effort to break the Guinness World Record for the longest-running multi-artist concert is a success. At approximately 8:40 a.m. Friday, a group of Chico musicians surpassed the old mark, setting the new record.
Approximately 300 musical acts have been performing non-stop for more than 15 days inside the Tackle Box on East Park Avenue. The old record of 15 days, 12 hours and 11 minutes was held by an establishment in Las Vegas.
The Chico musicians started playing on April 1 and they've kept the beat going non-stop.
The concert, referred to as Chico Breaks the Record, will continue at least another two weeks. Their goal is to play through the end of April.
The organizers have encountered a few problems. A PG&E power outage last week shut down the continuous record-keeping of the concert.
"We lost about an hour-and-a-half of our audio and video four-and-a-half days in," said Julia Ruck, one of the event organizers.
Organizers said they worked through the power outage by documenting the continuous concert with witness statements and iPhone video. But to be certain that Guinness accepts the record, the concert will continue another two weeks.
Organizers said the most challenging aspect of breaking the mark is having the Guinness-required 10 spectators at all times inside the Tackle Box.
