CONCOW, Calif. — Butte County deputies arrested a wanted felon they said they found with guns on a Concow property that had burned during the Camp Fire.
The suspect, 39-year-old Alex Bettencourt of San Jose, was arrested Wednesday.
Deputies went to a property on Granite Ridge Road to investigate reports of a suspicious person living on the property in a tent.
Investigators said when they arrived, Bettencourt came out of a tent. Inside the tent they said they found four guns including an illegal weapon (short-barreled shotgun) and a stolen handgun. They said they also found a switch blade knife and a throwing star, which are illegal in California.
A motorcycle that had been reported stolen was also found on the property.
As a convicted felon, Bettencourt is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. He also had two felony warrants out for his arrest.
Bettencourt faces a series of charges including being a felon in possession of a firearm, a felony charge of being a prohibited person from possessing ammunition, and two felony charges of receiving stolen property.
He was also charged with possession of a short-barreled shotgun, a misdemeanor charge of possession of switch blade knife, and possession of a throwing star. He was booked into the Butte County Jail.
