DUI suspected as factor in deadly Oroville crash
An Oroville man was arrested for DUI and vehicular manslaughter after a deadly crash early Sunday in Oroville.
The collision happened around 1:30 a.m. near Lower Wyandotte Road and Las Plumas Avenue.
According to the CHP, Lovie Shorter, 33 of Oroville, ran a red light and collided with a vehicle driven by Laurence Jeska, 65 of Oroville. Jeska was killed in the crash.
CHP investigators said Shorter was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe eastbound on Las Plumas Avenue when he failed to stop for the red light at Lower Wyandotte Road.
Shorter's vehicle collided with a 2013 Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by Jeska, whose vehicle had a green light at the time.
Pamela Bochantin, 35, of Oroville, was a passenger in Shorter's vehicle and suffered moderate injuries.
None of the people involved in the crash were wearing seat belts, according to the CHP.
Authorities are looking to witnesses for more information on the crash. They said one witness in a four-door pickup truck was seen on video surveillance stopped next to Shorter's vehicle in the Robertson's Market parking lot. They are asking the witness, and anyone else with information about the crash, to contact the California Highway Patrol.
