Estimate 600 take traditional polar plunge into Sycamore Pool
CHICO, Calif. - An estimated 600 brave souls swam across Lower Bidwell Park's Sycamore Pool Monday as part of an annual Chico New Year tradition
This year's swimmers were welcomed with a water reading of 39 degrees for the 1 p.m. plunge that takes most swimmers less than a minute to complete.
One plunger whose done this for five consecutive years says it's the ideal way to begin a new year.
"It's a tradition," he said. "I've got to cleanse the old year away, and move on to the next."
