Fillmer passes on reelection bid, endorses Chico business owner

Chico's vice mayor, Reanette Fillmer.

Chico's vice mayor, Reanette Fillmer, will not run for re-election to the city council.

Fillmer served one 4-year term but said she will focus on her career, having accepted a position as the Senior Vice President for Golden State Farm Credit.

However, a return to politics is not out of the question.

"I have every intention of staying in that arena ... so I don't have any intention of leaving that circle and the supporters that I have," she said.

Fillmer has endorsed Kasey Reynolds, whose family has owned Shubert's Ice Cream & Candy Shop in downtown Chico for four generations, which is why she says she's pro-business.

"We really need to think of businesses first," said Reynolds. "Businesses provide jobs, jobs provide income, income provides taxes, which is the revenue we need to take care of the infrastructure, police, fire and everything we need in Chico."

Three seats are up for re-election. Besides Fillmer's seat, Andrew Coolidge and Mark Sorensen will face the voters in November.
