Update: Woman killed in Highway 70 crash identified
OROVILLE, Calif. —
The woman killed in a crash on Highway 70 Sunday night has been identified by the Butte County Coroner's Office as Crystal Haight, 20, from Marysville.
According to CHP, at about 6:25 p.m., Haight was driving her 2006 Pontiac sedan northbound on Highway 70 at a high rate of speed.
Steven McCrory, 69, from Marysville, was driving a gray Ford Edge southbound on Highway 70 at 60 mph.
CHP said due to the unsafe speed that Haight was traveling, she failed to negotiate a right curve in the roadway and went through the center divide while spinning in a clockwise direction.
Haight's vehicle then went into the southbound lanes, directly ahead of McCrory's vehicle. Officials said the two vehicles collided head on, killing Haight.
McCrory's vehicle went onto the shoulder and became fully engulfed in flames but McCrory and his passenger were able to get out of the vehicle safely.
CHP added drugs were considered to be a factor in this collision.
