$12,000 worth of jewelry stolen, suspect arrested
CHICO, Calif. —
Chico police have arrested a man they said tried to steal about $12,000 worth of jewelry.
It happened around 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Kmart on Pillsbury Road in Chico.
Police said they got a report from an employee that the suspect, later identified as Philip Walton, had brandished a handgun after stealing the jewelry.
Walton, 29, reportedly drove away, but officials later found him at his home in Magalia.
They said the weapon reported as a handgun turned out to be a replica BB gun.
