REDDING, Calif. (KRCR) — There are some jobs that are considered essential during the Coronavirus pandemic. Construction is one of them.
Palomar Builders of Redding is keeping the local building industry humming. The company has 76 homes under construction right now. About half are sold, with buyers anxious to move in.
"This is a vital part of our community because we employ people that are making the cabinets to the refrigerators to the washers and driers, the doors, the tile people," said Jeb Allen of Palomar Builders. "Even manufacturers in the Midwest are sending us materials right now for our homes."
The homes being built are also helping materials, suppliers, and workers.
"It's really important to us right now to get our paychecks and stay out here and stay working because we have a lot of families at home," said subcontractor Spencer Park. "And with the kids out of school right now, you know, we usually have our wives at home too, and they're not working, and having to take care of our families. So being out here and being a part of the essential community elements and tools; it keeps all of us very stable with our mental state as well."
Workers are hoping the number of coronavirus cases in Shasta County remains low so state and local authorities will allow them to keep working.
