Green Party Candidate runs for Congressional District 1
In one week, voters will decide who will challenge the Northstate’s incumbent congressmen, Doug Lamalfa, for his seat in November.
As of now, there are seven candidates in the running including; two Republicans, four Democrats, and one Green Party candidate.
That lone Green Party candidate is Lewis Elbinger; a retired foreign service officer who spent 28 years working in the U.S. State Department.
Elbinger said, as a candidate, he offers voters something different.
“When I tell people that I’m not a liberal and I’m not a conservative, they're glad. I can see the expression on their face, 'well, finally somebody is not in that box' but then the next question is how do you do that? And the answer is, you just take the best ideas from where ever they come from," said Elbinger.
If elected, Elbinger said he would fight for issues such as affordable health care, tax reform and building political bridges between Democrats and Republicans.
