REDDING, Calif. — K-Shasta 104.3 is kicking off its 26th Annual K-Shasta Cares Radiothon for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The goal of the radiothon is to help make a difference for the kids of St. Jude. K-Shasta Host Don Burton talked to KRCR about how special it is for them to raise awareness on such an important topic.
"St. Jude means a lot to us because we know, although they are in Memphis, Tennessee, that they treat patients worldwide; they share their protocols. So if they come up with any type of cure for cancer, or a protocol, they share it with doctors, right here, in Redding."
This event has been taking place for over 25 years and may be the best one yet. "We're pretty excited because this year could actually put us over the mark of making a million dollars in total," Burton told KRCR.
According to the American Cancer Society, cancer is the second leading cause of death, after car accidents, among children ages 1 to 14. There is some optimism, however, because there have been major advances in treatment methods in recent decades.
Events like these are just one of the ways you can get involved, here, locally. You can help save kids' lives by becoming a Partner in Hope for $19 a month. If you want to become a member, call 1-800-795-1800.
"We just want to thank all of the Redding community, all of the surrounding communities, all of our partners and sponsors, and everyone that calls in. It means a lot because, literally, the money that you give saves lives," Burton said.
