Chico’s annual Cinderella’s Closet event is back Saturday, April 1.

The promwear event is expected to draw lines of promgoers, according to organizers.

It’s being hosted by the Student California Teachers Association at Chico State with help from the Butte County Probation Department and Chico Marketplace.

Doors at space B229 in Chico Marketplace open at 11 a.m.

“We usually have about 50 people waiting in line,” said Natasha Shelton, senior general manager at Chico Marketplace. “So if you get here first thing, you have your dibs on all the dresses and the shoes so I would say get here early.”

Along with Butte County Probation, the Chico Police Department and the Butte County Sheriff’s Office also pitched in to donate dresses.

“There’s a lack of resources in our community and if I, or our department, can support any of the children in our community to be able to attend those types of events then not something that we should support,” said Lisa Carrillo, Butte Co. Probation Department.

Organizers say there will also be a DJ and JCPenney will be handing out sample beauty bags and coupons for hair appointments.

Drop-off donations are being accepted at the Chico Marketplace Management office at 1950 E 20th Street, Suite 727, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the CTA Chico Office at 1430 East Ave #1.

“It's important for us to do whatever we can to try to remove those barriers in a fun way and in a supportive way,” said Linda Mobilio, of the Student California Teachers Assoc. at Chico State. “That's really what the event is all about.”
