High Times dispensaries are hosting the "Cannabis Cup" this weekend which is one of the largest cannabis competitions in the state.

Want to be a part of a state-wide competition? Well, you have the opportunity to be one of the almost 2,000 judges for this year’s Cannabis Cup.

The Redding location’s Manager Jeffery Simon said the general public can pick up their bags this Saturday.

“They’re all loaded,” Simon said. “They all should hit their cannabis limits, at least pretty close, so they’re pretty loaded. Definitely worth it.”

There are 12 different Cannabis Cup Kits that you can choose from, including everything from flowers, to edibles and even vapes. There will be 1,954 judging kits across the state at 34 different dispensaries. Each kit corresponds to one of 17 different categories including best gummy, flower, and pre-roll. Judges will have 60 days to sample products included in the kit and vote on aesthetic, aroma, taste, and effect.

“Great products to test out things you’ve never had before for whatever issues you have from pain, sleep, just about everything you can try,” Simon said. “Pick whatever bag you want. It’s that simple. Inside the bag, there will be a little card. You’ll fill it out online. They’ll send you and you enter your information. It’s really simple.”

There are 26,984 units of product total in the combined kits, with 150 product entries in total. All cannabis in the competition is grown in California.

“What’s going to stand out to you that’s going to be the gold,” KRCR’s Mason Carroll asked.

“Me personally I look for best taste, best high you know top-shelf cultivators is a good one in there and River Valley is also in there as well,” Simon said. “It just depends on your preference. Some people like a more stinky more sweet weed, it all depends on you.”

Regardless if you use for recreation, medical, or your first time, Simon said there is a bag for you.

“I feel like a lot of people are going for either sleep or pain release so this is a way if they’re scared to try it,” Simon said. “They don’t really want to get high but they want to try something that’s going to be fast like smoking. So it’s a great way to try it.”

If you’re interested in participating you can pick up your bag at their stores in Redding or Shasta Lake while supplies last starting Saturday for the general public. Loyalty members can pick up starting Friday.

Anyone 21 and older, or over 18 with a medical card, who purchases a kit and registers may judge. Kits run a retail value of roughly $60-200.
