CHICO, Calif. — An early-morning party Saturday left one juvenile with a gunshot wound, sending two others to Butte County Juvenile Hall, according to Chico Police.
In a press release Saturday morning, they say officers arrived at the area of Warner Street and W. 1st Avenue around 4 a.m. in response to a gunshot victim. The juvenile victim was found and transported to Enloe Medical Center, currently in serious but stable condition as of this article's posting.
Officers determined an altercation between two juveniles at a party off W. 2nd Avenue near Citrus Avenue in west Chico led to one shooting the other. Details of this altercation were not immediately provided.
After learning of the suspect and their accomplice's descriptions, officers and a motor sergeant located two people running through Chico High School's campus matching these descriptions. The two fled from officers but were "quickly detained" after a short pursuit. One of these juveniles, a male, was positively identified as the shooter and detained for suspicion of Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The other was detained for Battery on a Peace Officer and Resisting Arrest with Threats of Violence.
Both juveniles were transported and are currently in Butte County Juvenile Hall Saturday morning. The department asks anyone with further information about this incident to call the Chico Police Department Violence Suppression Unit at (530) 8987-4010.
