REDDING, Calif. — On Tuesday the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), in partnership with Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency, conducted a youth decoy operation to uncover and limit the sales of tobacco products to youth.
According to the SCSO, four clerks sold tobacco products to the youth decoy, who was under the age of 21.
During the operation, the decoy was supervised by Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office as they attempted to purchase tobacco products from 13 tobacco retail licensed businesses throughout Shasta County.
The Sheriff's Office says the following businesses were cited for selling tobacco to the decoy.
Both agencies are reminding the public that the minimum age to purchase and use tobacco products is 21.
They say they will continue to conduct periodic compliance checks to reduce the availability of tobacco and vaping products to youth in Shasta County.
This operation was made possible thanks to funding provided by the Department of Justice – Tobacco Grant Program and through the Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency.
