REDDING, Calif. — Concert fans, get ready. The Redding Civic Auditorium will host a huge rock and country music festival this fall and tickets go on sale in two weeks.
While top cities are known for their outdoor musical festivals such as Bottle Rock in Napa Valley, Coachella, Stagecoach and Milwaukee Summerfest, Redding will soon be home to the Redd Sun Festival, which is promised to bring with it the true festival vibe.
The Redd Sun Festival is scheduled for Sept. 29 and 30. The two-day festival will feature eight nationally recognized Rock n' Roll and Country artists, meaning four different acts each day.
The outdoor music festival is estimated to bring in 10,000 concert fans and will take up both lawns facing the Civic Auditorium.
Redding Civic Marketing Director Nathan Parmelee said they'll be announcing the line up June 4, along with ticket prices. Fans will be able to purchase a one-day or a two-day festival pass. VIP passes will be available as well.
Friday, June 8, tickets will be available to the public.
The Redd Sun Festival will feature a true festival vibe, including a huge festival stage, food vendors, drinks, activities and more.
Parmelee said based on the larger acts, like Modest Mouse and Korn that they've had at the Civic, they know fans have come from a four hour radius. Parmelee noted that a large number of fans come from the Bay Area and Sacramento. While he can't reveal the artists coming in Sept. yet, Parmelee they will have a similar appeal and draw.
"We've been planning to do a major music festival for several years now and with the recent success we recognized this is the ideal time for our organization to take this on. We're ready and Redding is ready for something big and exciting," Parmelee announced.
Jake Mangas with the Redding Chamber of Commerce added the city is ready for the Redd Sun Festival. He adds local businesses have a lot to look forward to.
"I mean this means a lot for business in Redding potentially, certainly in the hospitality industry and the unique boutiques that we have. People will start to experience Redding, more than just the venue and that's something that's going to accentuate the positive in our community and improve the image and reputation of our city," Mangas said.
Currently the organization is in the process of partnering with Redding hotels for the festival.
