A man was arrested for DUI after he ran a red light and crashed into a police officer, officials say.

The Chico Police Department says it happened on Friday, March 28 shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Main Street at E. 8th Street.

Police say a man driving a maroon BMW sedan collided with the passenger side of a fully-marked Chico Police patrol vehicle.

According to officers, both the driver of the BMW and the officer suffered complaints of pain as a result of the crash.

The driver of the BMW, 28-year-old Anthony Squitieri, had symptoms of being under the influence at the scene of the crash, police say.

He was transported to the hospital for evaluation. Once he was medically cleared, police arrested him for DUI.

The Chico Police Department says the California Highway Patrol assisted in the investigation.

Preliminary findings show that Squitieri likely ran the red light while westbound on E. 8th Street at Main Street before striking the Chico Police vehicle as it traveled northbound on Main Street.
