Man struck, killed by train near Mt. Shasta
The Siskyou County Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident where a man was struck by a train near Mt. Shasta, Friday morning.
Siskyou County Sheriff's Deputies responded around 9:47 a.m. on Friday to a report of a train vs. pedestrian fatal accident that occurred on railroad-owned property in the area of North Old State Road, north of Abrams Lake, near the "Graffiti Bridge" railroad crossing about 2.5 miles northwest of Mt. Shasta.
The first deputy on scene found the body of an adult man who was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation showed that the man had been struck by a moving train. No vehicles were involved in the incident.
“On behalf of the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, I would like to offer our thoughts and prayers to the decedent, his family, and friends in the aftermath of his death. This case is still under investigation and anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the SCSO’s 24-Hour Dispatch Center at (530) 841-2900. A post-mortem examination will be conducted within the next few days. The identification of the decedent is pending the notification of next-of-kin,” said Siskiyou County Sheriff, Jon Lopey.
