REDDING, Calif. — Parents at Columbia Elementary School in Redding are outraged after finding out that a convicted sex offender was found to be volunteering on campus: 36-year-old Sean Green.
A mother, who does not want to be identified, has a son in the same class as Green and said she’s disappointed with the school and is still in shock that this happened.
She says she remembers seeing Green at their back-to-school night but didn’t think much of it, assuming they conduct thorough background checks for everyone on campus.
According to school parents, Green was there for about two years. Students were also asked to call him "Sergeant Green." Parents also tell KRCR Green gave candy out to girls as well as gems if they were “special.”
The mother who wished to stay anonymous said she attended Columbia Elementary School when she was younger which makes this news that much more shocking. And she’s not happy with how the school is dealing with the issue.
I drop my kids off thinking that they’re safe at school, already knowing that I’m already scared that they’re not gonna be on the bus or something is going to happen, and they hear about this and it’s kind of frustrating,” said the anonymous mother. “I went to school back when I was a kid. I had Mr. Ross when I was here. But, it’s kind of frustrating and super irritating.
She tells KRCR's Daisy Caballero parents believe Green and the teacher he was volunteering for are in a relationship, although that has not been confirmed with officials. She has also left messages asking the school if the teacher will continue working but hasn’t received an answer.
