Periods of low snow this weekend

WINTER STORM WARNING (Foothills and Mountains)

A series of storms will impact the Northstate Friday through next week. The first system is centered to our south tonight. It is still close enough to toss showers into the Northstate through this evening.

Most models are showing another strong system with very low snow levels Saturday, Sunday and into Monday. Most of the precipitation should be in the form of rain in the valley through the day on Saturday but could transition to snow especially in Redding by Saturday night. Chances for valley snow continue Sunday and into Monday morning.

It doesn't look like this cold and wet weather pattern is going away any time soon with a continued unsettled weather pattern most likely through next week.

Snow levels are expected to average between 1,000 and 2,000 feet with the potential for snow to make it down to the valley at times. It will all depend on the timing with each approaching storm as to whether or not the valley gets any snow.

Any way you look at it with the snow levels remaining fairly low, travel in the mountains will need to be done with extreme caution.

If you plan on travelling in the mountains at all starting tonight you will need to keep a close eye on the forecast and road conditions.
