REDDING, Calif. (KRCR) - Countless social media posts, along with Facebook groups with thousands of followers, have centered their attention around a man named Pirate who has been spotted walking the streets in Shasta county.

Previously known as Daniel Selovich, his substantial criminal history has led some people in Shasta County to not only track his every move online but demand that he leave immediately.

Pirate's lengthy criminal past spans across several states and includes charges of sexual assault, kidnapping, and assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury in Redding in 2004, where he was sentenced to four years in prison.

KRCR did a full breakdown of Pirate's criminal history: click here to read more.

With a face and name many people can't forget, Pirate has captivated residents in the area but Redding Police Department (RPD) says he is not currently wanted for any crimes.

On Tuesday, Pirate told KRCR during a phone interview that he has been accused by people in Redding of several false crimes, including an incident where a man said he was a child molester and attacked him with a taser.

During that interview, Pirate said if he was convicted of all the heinous crimes he has been accused of, why is he currently a free man?

"All these charges are either getting dropped down to petty or getting thrown out. These are charges at the minimum is usually 15 years the maximum is life. You can google it and there are people doing a lot ... there are a lot of people in California every state that I have been to that I get these crazy charges that are doing life or 25 to life typically over these type of charges. Now either I am the luckiest guy alive or maybe there is more to these stories," said Pirate.

Pirate says he has tried to have adult conversations with people he encounters but says people only believe what they see on the internet.

While he has lived in different states, he says he has specific plans for his time in Shasta County.

"I am here to get started on my disability, get my money started again, then I will leave. This is where I got started on my disability last time, this is where I am going to do it this time and if I leave in a pine box, you know that sucks for the people that love me which totals like six people I think," said Pirate.

Pirate told KRCR that he does wonder if someone will attempt to use deadly force the next time he is seen in public.

He currently does not have a timetable of how long he will remain in the Northstate.
