The first round of COVID vaccines is on the way to the Redding Veterans Home. Some residents are ready to be the first in line when the vaccine gets there.

KRCR spoke to Jessica Koppes, the acting administrator for the Redding Veterans Home, who said that the first round of vaccines will arrive on January 19th.

Koppes said thanks to a partnership with Walgreens, they will be on-site next week to begin vaccinating residents and staff.

She said this has been a long time coming in the last few months while dealing with potential exposures.

According to a press release from the California Department of Veterans Affairs, all of California's eight veterans homes are enrolled with the Pharmacy Partnership Program with Walgreens and CVS.

Officials say this upcoming clinic will mean all 8 veterans' homes will have had one clinic for the first vaccine.

"I've spoken personally with several residents that have been anticipating a vaccine for many months now, asking when it would be available to us, and we're very excited to say that its coming," Koppes said. "Several folks will be in the hallway and hoping to be first in line. It very much feels like a light at the end of the tunnel for us to be able to offer our residents and our staff this vaccine. It's been a long road and we're making sure we're taking the right steps to overcome."

She added how important this milestone is and how grateful they are to be giving this opportunity to their staff and veterans.
