Soft closures lifted in the Millville Plains area but residents should remain alert

Bascom Fire in Millville Plains area

Update Sunday 7:30 a.m., The Bascom Fire is at 328 acres and 75 percent contained.

Cal Fire is making good progress on the Bascom Fire on Bascom Road in the Millville Plains area but strong wind gusts pose a challenge. Soft closures have been lifted at Dersch Road and Millville Plains and at Dersch Road and Ash Creek Road.

Cal Fire responded to a vegetation fire off Bear Creek Way and Bascom Road in the Millville Plains area.

Fire crews are focusing on keeping the fire on the south side of the Bear Creek Drainage. Cal Fire PIO, Cheryl Buliavac said wind is making it difficult but with several ground crews and air attack units, firefighters have made progress.

According to Shasta County Sheriff's Sgt. Kyle Wallace, deputies are notifying homes in the area that evacuations are pending.

Animal Resource Officers are also on standby in order to assist residents with large animals.
