Erratic winds are posing a problem for firefighters on Thursday.

3. Road travel on Independence Day

Caltrans said roads will be much busier on this Independence Day compared to last year.

There will be about 5.1 percent more people driving compared to the same time in 2017, according to officials.

4. Fireworks in the Northstate, North Coast today

Several fireworks shows will take place in the Northstate and North Coast on Independence Day.

In Redding, the Freedom Festival will feature fireworks at 10 p.m.

In Chico, fireworks will light up the sky after the races at the Silver Dollar Speedway.

On the North Coast, you can catch the Humboldt Bay Fireworks display at 10 p.m.

5. Chico shelter crisis

A shelter crisis in Chico is one step closer to being approved after a vote by the city council.

The city council voted five to two in favor on Tuesday.

A declaration will now be put together by the city attorney.
