Four years ago, on April 10, 2014, ten people were killed after a FedEx truck and a tour bus, carrying high school student en route to Humboldt State University, collided on Interstate 5 in Orland.

39 other people were injured in the crash.

The investigation into the crash, which lasted more than a year, determined the truck driver may have been sick or had some medical issues, but investigators never came to a firm conclusion.

Following the crash, the National Transportation Safety Board discussed increasing safety requirements for motor-coaches, including adding fire-resistant material inside, adding a second door for another escape route, and requiring bus drivers to provide safety information on emergency exits before every trip.

The ten people killed were:

  • Talalelei Lealao-Taiao
  • Arthur Arzola Jr.
  • Mattison Haywood
  • Michael Myvett Jr.
  • Jennifer Bonilla
  • Adrian Castro
  • Denise Gomez
  • Ismael Jimenez
  • Marisa Serrato
  • Timothy Evans
