Three Anderson police officers and two officers with the CHP Northern Division Air Operations were presented with Medals of Valor this week for their heroic acts in an officer-involved shooting and saving lives during the Atlas Fire.

On March 26, 2017, three Anderson police officers, Officer Tyler Finch, Officer David Starkey, and Officer Tyler Spurgeon, were investigating a stolen vehicle case at the Motel 6 in Anderson.

During the investigation, the three officers attempted to speak with the suspect in motel room but were instead met with gunfire.

Officer Finch was shot twice in his ballistic vest at point blank range. The officers returned fire, stopping the threat posed by the suspect.

The three officers received Medals of Valor for their valiant display of courage and professionalism during the situation.

Officer Pilot Chad Millward and Flight Officer/Paramedic Phil Agdeppa of the CHP Northern Division Air Operations were presented with Medals of Valor for their heroic actions the night the Atlas Fire started on October 2017 in Napa County.

CHP said they, along with two officers from the Golden Gate Division Air Operations, are directly responsible for saving the lives of 41 people that night.
