Police search for armed robbery suspect

The Redding Police Department made an arrest connected to the Gas 4 Less robbery that took place on December 27, 2017.

According to police officials, while the suspect covered his face during the robbery, the clerk still recognized him as a previous customer who had been inside the store just a few minutes before the incident.

With the assistance of the Shasta County Probation Department and tips from the public, the robbery suspect was quickly identified as Lawrence Edward Williams, 36, of Redding

Officials said that with his identity known and images of himself conducting the robbery widely circulated on social media, Williams left California and traveled 1,200 miles across three states before ultimately being apprehended in Westminster, Colorado. Williams was arrested and a woman associated with him was also detained in Westminster on January 5.

When Williams was arrested he was found to be in possession of a concealed handgun. Redding Police Department Investigators worked in coordination with several law enforcement agencies across the western United States to locate and arrest Williams.

Williams is currently in custody in Colorado awaiting extradition back to Shasta County on an arrest warrant charging him with robbery. The woman associate was interviewed and released.
