Early morning attempted car thief arrested in Redding

Jason Parker

38-year-old Jason Christopher Parker was arrested early Thursday morning in connection with a vehicle burglary.

It happened around 1 a.m. in Redding.

Officers received notice of a burglary in progress at Rocha's Auto Service near Shasta View Drive.

When officers arrived, they spotted Parker inside a vehicle at the business. Parker then ran from officers. He was detained and found to have a large screwdriver thought to be used during the attempted theft.

During an investigation, police said it is thought Parker was able to get into a car with a previously broken window. Officers found a rock on the floor of the vehicle. It is also believed the steering column was broken as a result of Parker's attempted theft.

Parker was arrested for burglary, being in possession of burglary tools, attempted vehicle theft, and resisting arrest.
