Update: New details released about fatal crash on Highway 273, victim identified
REDDING, Calif. —
A 21-year-old man was killed Thursday morning after police say for unknown reasons, he lost control of his vehicle, collided with a traffic signal and then rolled several times.
According to the Redding Police Department, Brennan Emmitt Gard from Anderson was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the black 2000 GMC Yukon.
Officers said at approximately 6:55 a.m. they were dispatched to a roll-over traffic collision on Highway 273 at Girvan Road.
When officers arrived, they determined Gard was traveling southbound on Highway 273, towing a quad runner at a high rate of speed, when he lost control of his vehicle.
According to witnesses, an unknown driver was stopped in the intersection at the time of the collision but this driver has not been identified and has not provided a statement to police.
Police believe that driver can provide critical information about the collision. The vehicle is described as a light-colored pickup towing a white enclosed utility trailer.
