Foothill quarterback uses legs, arm to lead Cougars

PALO CEDRO, Calif. - After totaling 264 yards on offense, the bulk of it rushing from his quarterback position, Foothill High School's Jayden Gordon was named Mega Star Financial Xtra Point Player of the Week.

The senior rushed for 171 yards and three scores, passed for another 50 yards and a touchdown, and even caught a pass for a touchdown as the Cougars raced out front of Red Bluff en route to a 49-34 NSCIF win Friday night.

"Everything clicked that night," Gordon said of their playoff win over Red Bluff on a foggy night in Palo Cedro. "It was awesome. I'm having a lot of fun with my teammates and the coaches and everything. It's been an awesome experience."

Averaging close to 200 total yards a game, Gordon's dual threat as a rusher has been critical for Foothill, since team's can't just key on star running back Jeshua Womack, who rushed for 209 yards on 21 carries against Red Bluff.

"I think it's my strongest suit on the football field," Gordon said of his ability to run with the football.

In recent years, Foothill has boasted several top flight quarterbacks, and head coach Joey Brown said Gordon is impressing the toughest of critics: the alumni.

"There's a tradition to uphold and that alumni group likes to stick together and talk about who's next," Brown said. "Jayden's been really excited about his performance and the fact that he can live up to their expectations and standards for Foothill football."
