Two arrested after deputy finds vehicle two hours after being stolen

REDDING, Calif. - Two people were arrested Saturday morning after a deputy found them in a vehicle that had been reported stolen just two hours prior.

At 1:42 a.m., Deputy Timothy O'Hara was on patrol with his K-9 partner, Hondo, in the area of the Arco AM/PM Market, located at 2402 Cascade Blvd. in Redding. As Deputy O'Hara drove through the parking lot of the business, he noticed a vehicle matching the description of a recently reported stolen vehicle from the City of Redding, according to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.

As Deputy O'Hara approached the vehicle he was able to confirm the vehicle was stolen and could see that there were four people inside the vehicle.

As Deputy O'Hara approached the vehicle, which was parked at a gas pump, the four people quickly got out of the vehicle and walked away from him, towards the market. Three of the people, later identified as Proudstar Wilson, 22, Wind Dancer Wilson, 20, and Chase Mattson, 21, walked into the market, away from Deputy O'Hara. The fourth person, the driver of the vehicle, ran around the outside of the market and into the darkness and wooded area, west of the building along Oasis Road.

Officials said with the assistance of Hondo, Deputy O'Hara found and detained Proudstar, Wind Dancer, and Chase while other sheriff's deputies, along with the California Highway Patrol helicopter and CHP officers responded to the location.

Once additional deputies arrived on scene, Deputy O'Hara and Hondo tracked the path of the driver. The suspect was found hiding next to an RV approximately 200 yards southwest of the market, across Oasis Road. Officials said the suspect complied with deputies and was detained. The suspect was identified as Jesse Scott Caldwell, 27. Jesse is currently on Post Release Community Supervision probation and is prohibited from owning ammunition.

Officials said the vehicle was later found to have been reported to the Redding Police Department as stolen, just two hours prior to Deputy O'Hara finding it. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and his vehicle was returned to him.

Jesse was arrested and booked for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, obstruct/delay/resist a peace officer, violation of probation, and bringing a controlled substance into jail. Proudstar was arrested for an outstanding warrant for work release program violation and Wind Dancer and Chase were released from the scene.
