GoFundMe created for wife, daughter of Mel Riffel hopes to raise $100,000

GoFundMe page created for Brittney Riffel and their unborn daughter.

The GoFundMe total is climbing for the pregnant widow of one of the Redding brothers killed in the Ethiopian Airlines crash on Sunday.

The account was set up by Joel Grogan, one of 12 cousins in a large and loving family. Grogan grew up with Mel and Bennett Riffel.

Grogan said he wanted to do something and came up with the idea of the GoFundMe for Brittney, who is due in May with their daughter.

"As a dad myself, with two young kids, I've got a baby and a toddler, we know that there's nothing we can really do to take away this pain, but that we can try to help alleviate some of the financial stress of being a new parent," said Grogan.

Grogan originally set a goal of $30,000 and people blew through that in about a day so the new goal is $100,000.

"We began this fund with a goal of $30,000 in honor of Mel's upcoming 30th birthday but, if you knew Mel, you know he always lived life to the max. Inspired by his 100%-or-bust attitude, we are raising the fundraising goal to $100,000," Grogan posted on the GoFundMe page.
