Update: Gorge Fire near Platina grows to 155 acres, 40 percent contained

Update 5:50 p.m.:

Cal Fire says the Gorge Fire has grown to 155 acres and is 40 percent contained.

Highway 36 will remain closed, and fire crews will remain at the scene overnight and through the day tomorrow mopping up hot spots.

Update 1:50 p.m.:

Cal Fire says the Gorge Fire is holding at 75 acres and is 20 percent contained. Forward spread has been stopped but road closures remain in place.

Cal Fire is reporting a fire burning off Highway 36 west and Beegun Gorge Road in the Platina area.

As of 10:30 a.m. the Gorge fire has burned 75 acres. No evacuations have been issued at this time.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office has closed Hwy 36 between Platina Road and the R Wild Horse Ranch.
