Igo Cemetery Honor Guard being moved to Sacramento
IGO, Calif. —
The Army National Guard Honor Guard team that was assigned to the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo is being moved to Sacramento.
The Northern California Veterans Cemetery funeral manager Mark George said the Army Honor Guard has been based at the cemetery since it opened about 12 years ago. The Honor Guard team assigned to the cemetery would travel throughout the Northstate, performing services.
George said he's been told by the California State Honor Guard that although they will be based at the Sacramento headquarters, it will not impact the availability of the guards from coming up to the Northstate, which was a concern for many in the veteran community.
"There was a legitimate concern, you know? That was one of my concerns with what's that going to do to the operations in the availability of the honor guard for us," said George. "And once again, we were completely assured we will have soldiers on site for any Army Honor Guard request."
George said there are some national guard soldiers that live locally in the Northstate that have been used by the assigned honor guard, and they should be available. If they are not available, Sacramento will send soldiers for services upon request.
