One dead after officer-involved shooting in Redding

Redding police have confirmed one man is dead following an officer-involved shooting Monday afternoon on Arizona Street.

According to Officer Wallace with the Redding Police Department, they received a 911 call about a man on Churn Creek Road who was possibly armed with a handgun and acting erratic.

The caller added they believed the man might have been under the influence of drugs due to his behavior.

When police arrived, the man saw them and began running through the neighborhood.

Police say he ran through several yards and then broke into a home that was occupied. Police say they received information that he assaulted some of the people inside the home before exiting with a handgun.

That's when the officer-involved shooting occurred.

The suspect was pronounced dead on scene and officers said he was found armed.

The residents who were assaulted suffered minor injuries.

Arizona Street is closed in both directions and police will be on scene for several hours. People are being encouraged to avoid the area.

Our Chief Photographer Adam McAllister spoke with siblings who were the victims of the assault and they told him the man ran through the house, grabbing them as they tried to run away.

"He came into our house and then he went after her first and was grabbing her neck and stuff and she had to push him off and then my brother came in and he went after him and he did that to his face, really messed him up and he tried to get away, he like fell and stuff," said Monique Nunes.

"I ran out the back door and he tried grabbing me and I fell to the ground and my mom came up behind and grabbed him and got him off of me and then I ran out," said Anthony Nunes.

The two said they're glad they were able to escape without serious injury.
