Redding firefighters douse late night apartment fire

REDDING, Calif. - A late-night apartment complex fire destroyed two residential units Friday, displacing two families.

According to the Redding Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to 3600 Churn Creek Road around 11:15 p.m. for a report of a structure fire at the Hacienda West Apartments.

Firefighters first on scene requested a full Redding fire response. First responders then did a quick search of the apartments and found that all occupants had escaped without injury.

In total, just two units were damaged by the fire. The flames left an estimated $100,000 worth of damage.

According to a fire inspector, the fire started on a kitchen countertop. They believe that a series of appliance batteries being charged on the countertop led to the fire. The fire was ruled an accident.
