Redding's third Sundial Splash set for Saturday
REDDING, Calif. —
Redding’s third Sundial Splash Community Float pushes off this Saturday, at Riverfront Park.
To prepare for the event, North Country Raft Rental held a training course for their employees and Redding Sports Camp employees.
Lance Law is the owner of North Country Raft Rental. He said Sundial Splash will be open to all paddle sports, including kayaks, rafts, canoes and paddle boards. However, he added no motorized water craft will be allowed.
Boats are set to hit the water Saturday morning around 10 o’clock at Riverfront Park, near the Sundial Bridge. The race finishes near South Bonnyview Bridge, at John Reginato River Access.
Law said the event will be broken into two parts.
"Sundial Splash is really two separate things. There's a race from down from Turtle Bay, to Bonnyview. And there's what we call the 'floatilla of fun' and that's where we're trying to get as many boats out on the river as possible, in one shot. Last year we had a couple hundred boats and it was really quite a spectacle,” Law said.
He said even if people aren’t signed up for the race, they can still take their boats down to join the “floatilla of fun.”
To register for the race, visit the Sundial Splash website here.
All ages are invited to attend. Registration for attendees 16 years or older is $20 and anyone 15 years old or younger is free.
