San Diego man arrested after Shasta County crime spree

Julius Keeler, age 34, of San Diego, arrested after Shasta County crime spree.

Redding Police say a 34-year-old San Diego man was arrested Monday in connection with a lengthy crime spree in Anderson, Redding, and the Shasta county area around Redding.

Around 2:25 p.m., Anderson Police officers were dispatched to a burglary call at the Baymount Inn near the Factory Outlets. Officers found ammunition in a motel room which was allegedly associated with Julius Keeler of San Diego. Keeler's vehicle information was noted, and a "Be On The Lookout" was sent to surrounding law enforcement agencies.

At 3:06 p.m., the Shasta County Sheriff's Office received a call of a gun being brandished in the Churn Creek bottom area. The suspect matched Keeler's description.

Around 3:30 p.m., Officer Kofford with RPD was dispatched to Keeler's next alleged crime scene: a stolen vehicle report on Rancho Road. Keeler's vehicle was found behind the victim's home.

While on his way to a burglary call on Rancho Road, Officer Kofford saw a man matching Keeler's description, near the R.E.U. building on Avtech Parkway, about one mile away from Rancho Road. Keeler was detained and found to be in possession of stolen property from the home on Rancho Road as well as a firearm.

The Sheriff's Office brought the brandishing victim from the Churn Creek Bottom area to the scene. The victim positively identified Keeler as the man who brandished the gun.

The stolen vehicle from Rancho Road was found parked and running behind the R.E.U. building.

Officer Kofford recovered $20,000 in jewelry and a firearm from the residential burglary.

Keeler was booked into the Shasta County Jail for residential burglary, possession of a concealed firearm, and theft of a vehicle. Additional charges are pending.
