September 13: Delta Fire evening community meeting in Dunsmuir
DUNSMUIR, Calif. —
Hours after a brief shutdown of Interstate 5 due to the Delta Fire, officials explained the activity on the Delta Fire Thursday to a meeting of citizens at Dunsmuir Elementary School.
According to fire officials, firefighters had success in constructing a fireline directly along the fire's perimeter on the northern, western and southern edges of the fire.
Fire activity that got the public's attention, and briefly led to the closure of I-5, was due to fire activity on the northeastern area of the fire where unburned fuels, between Gibson and Sims Roads, began burning actively.
With help from air attack and existing containment lines, the flare up, which was within the containment of the fire, was brought under control.
