Shasta Dam put on "no-drone zone" list
REDDING, Calif. - Starting Thursday, the Federal Aviation Administration, or FAA, partnered with the Department of the Interior to approve a no-fly zone for drones over ten U.S. historical landmarks.
This list includes the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, and even Shasta Dam.
"Shasta Dam provides the water for the entire, well a good portion of, the Central Valley Project...it is crucial for feeding our country," said Sherri Harral with the Bureau of Reclamations. "So they are very, very well protected, looked at as far as security, and maintained as such."
Violating this new restriction could result in a felony charge.
"It is a federal offense, and you do not want to have a federal offense because it is very very severe," said Harral.
To find more about the restricted locations, the FAA has created an interactive map you can find here.
