A special unveiling ceremony took place at Simpson University Tuesday for veterans and community members in the Northstate.

The Simpson University Memorial Garden unveiling was a gift from the graduating class of 2018 to the University.

The memorial garden is complete with a garden, plaques, bricks, roses and a bench.

Many organizations attended the unveiling including Shasta County Veterans Services, California Secretary of Veterans Affairs along with Redding's Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The graduating class said the garden would be a place for student veterans, students who have lost family members in the service, veterans and the community.

Graduating senior Colton Hardisty, who was involved with the project, said he's glad how the garden and event turned out.

"You know, it's really cool. Honestly, it's really great to see. I mean, I think it's absolutely beautiful. I mean, I think it turned out really well. Better than we could've hoped. It just means a lot to have the project finished, to see a completed idea and just to see people in the future can enjoy this," said Hardisty.

Simpson University said November 17 will mark their two-year anniversary of the opening of Simpson's Veterans Success Center, and this fall the center is serving 50 student veterans.
