Fatal officer-involved shooting closes part of I-5, passenger still on the loose
The suspect in a vehicle pursuit and officer-involved shooting has been killed Thursday morning.
Police said it started around 5:30 a.m. when they spotted a stolen car on southbound Interstate 5 near South Bonnyview Road in Redding. The driver did not stop for officers and the pursuit continued into the northbound lanes of I-5 just south of Knighton Road.
Police used spike strips to stop the vehicle and closed the northbound lanes of I-5 just before 6 a.m.
Officers said the suspect fired at least one shot from a handgun and that’s when they returned fire. A female suspect is on the loose, according to police. She was the passenger in the suspect vehicle.
As of 8 a.m., one lane of northbound I-5 has been reopened.
No officers were injured in the incident.
