21-year-old dies in solo crash one hour after birthday

A 21-year-old has died in a fatal crash in Red Bluff, one hour after his birthday.

The Tehama County Coroner's Office has identified the man as Tristan Seidel from Millville.

It happened shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday on Highway 99 East, south of Cone Grove Road in Red Bluff.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said Seidel was driving a white Dodge truck southbound when he veered off the road, over-corrected and crashed into a walnut tree.

The vehicle rolled over and was found upside down on the shoulder. Seidel died in the crash.

Caltrans and CHP units responded to the area and traffic was reduced to one lane for over an hour as they processed the scene and cleared the road.

Tristan's mother Kelly Matthew-Seidel said a few words about her son.

"Tristan was a super sweet and caring. He loved life and his family and friends. He was always there for anyone who needed him. He loved motocross and his truck and we miss him so much we are all just devastated," said Kelly. "He was a loving caring son, grandson, and brother who loved life and loved his family. He was always there to help if someone needed help. We truly loved him so much and he will be deeply missed"

CHP is investigating alcohol as a factor after they reportedly found beer cans inside the vehicle and throughout the scene.
