Convicted Tehama Co. murderer accused of killing cellmate

A Tehama County man convicted of murder has been accused of killing his cellmate.

According to officials at the High Desert State Prison, Robert J. Stockton, 40, is suspected of killing his cellmate, Rodney J. Delong Jr., 28.

Stockton was transferred from Tehama County in 1995 to serve life with the possibility of parole for first-degree murder and use of a firearm.

According to investigators, staff found Delong unresponsive in his short-term restrictive housing unit cell, Sunday afternoon. He succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Delong was transferred from Placer County in 2014, and was serving a nine-year sentence for first-degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance.
