DA: Tehama County lawyer arrested after attempting to bribe witness
TEHAMA COUNTY, Calif. - A Tehama County lawyer was arrested Saturday after the District Attorney's office said a year long investigation showed he had approached and offered to pay a victim in a case to not cooperate and not appear in court.
Investigators with the Tehama County District Attorney Bureau of Investigation arrested Roland Bennett, 49, from Corning, for bribing a witness and conspiracy to commit a crime, both felonies.
Investigators said Bennett was representing a person who is being charged with a felony charge in Tehama County Superior Court. Over the last year, he approached the victim in the case and offered to pay him in return for not cooperating with the District Attorney's Office and to not appear in court.
Bennett was booked into the Tehama County Jail with $50,000 bail but later posted bail and was released.
