Deputies investigating death at Tehama Co. Jail
RED BLUFF, Calif. - Tehama County Sheriff's detectives are investigating the death of a man found dead in a holding cell at the Tehama County Jail Friday.
At about 3:12 p.m., correctional staff in the Tehama County Jail found Randy Burril Dunham hanging in one of the jail holding cells in the booking area. Correctional and medical staff in the jail immediately initiated lifesaving first aid in an attempt to resuscitate and revive Dunham.
First responders from Red Bluff Fire and St. Elizabeth Hospital also responded to assist with lifesaving efforts to no avail. Dunham was pronounced dead at the jail.
Officials said Dunham had been arrested and booked into the Tehama County Jail earlier in the day for the violation of a domestic violence restraining order and was waiting for the booking process to be completed when his body was found. Dunham was locked inside a single person holding cell in the intake area of the jail.
A complete investigation into the death of Dunham is being conducted by the Sheriff's Detective Unit.
