Northbound I-5 reopens after fatal crash in Tehama Co.
GERBER, Calif. —
One person is dead after a crash in Tehama County early Tuesday morning.
It happened around 3:45 a.m. on Northbound I-5 just north of Gyle Road.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said a grey Jeep and a box truck were involved.
The Jeep was northbound when it drifted into the guard rail, according to the CHP. They said the vehicle spun out and came to a stop in the middle of the freeway.
The Jeep's passenger was able to get out of the vehicle while the driver was trying to undo his seat belt. The CHP said a box truck traveling the same way then crashed into the left side of the vehicle.
Officials said the driver of the Jeep died. He was 21 years old.
Northbound I-5 was closed at Gyle Road but has since reopened.
