A mother and father are in Tehama County Jail after police said their 26-day-old infant suffered a broken arm and they waited a day to seek treatment for the child.

Red Bluff police arrested the father, Kenneth Keverline, 31, and the mother, Jessica Trimble, 28. The arrest came after officers responded to the St. Elizabeth Community Hospital around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday to investigate a possible case of child abuse.

Investigators said the mother had caused the injury to the baby early Tuesday morning. They said both parents knew about the injury but waited until the following day to take the baby to the hospital.

Keverline and Trimble were arrested on charges of child abuse and conspiracy and booked into Tehama County Jail.

Police said the girl is in protective custody and is in stable condition.
